Jeff previously worked as an attorney with both Latham & Watkins LLP and Arent Fox LLP, providing advice on all aspects of international trade and compliance issues. He is a member of the Virginia Bar and the District of Columbia Bar. He has a JD from Georgetown University Law Center and government/international politics degrees from American University (BA) and Georgetown University (MA). Prior to his legal career, Jeff worked in America Online/AOL Europe's Business Affairs group, structuring and negotiating dozens of contracts regarding Internet access and technology licensing and distribution.
Jeff is an international trade attorney with experience at leading law firms. He started Magellan Trade to provide high-quality services at a reasonable cost.
Economic Sanctions, Export Controls, and International Trade Legal and Consulting Services
Jeff has participated in compliance reviews domestically and internationally, internal investigations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR) counseling and investigation matters, commodity jurisdiction/classification requests, and training efforts. He has worked with clients on more than 35 voluntary disclosures to multiple US Government agencies.
Jeff's sanctions work has focused on ensuring compliance with the constantly changing and dynamic US and international sanctions against Iran, Cuba, Syria, Sudan, Russia/Ukraine, Burma, Libya, Somalia, Zimbabwe, Belarus, and other countries. He also has provided advice on avoiding transactions with Specially Designated Nationals (SDNs) and other restricted parties, including securing guidance from US Government agencies as appropriate.
